Projects Gwon Osang’s New Structure Nanhai Installed at《Art in Qiaoshan-Artfield Nanhai 2026》 GWON Osang (b. 1974) is participating in the《Art in Qiaoshan-Artfield Nanhai 2026》in China, where he has unveiled a newly commissioned work. Under the main theme of ”The Original Bay Area“ and the sub-theme ”Moving Alongside the Water,“ the festival unfolds across a vast landscape encompassing three areas in the western part of Nanhai District. Exhibitions 《GWON OSANG: Hybrid Abstract Scene》, 2026.09.11 – 2026.11.08, SHINSEGAE GALLERY, DAEGU Gwon Osang’s solo exhibition presents the artist’s practice, which has opened up new possibilities for contemporary Korean sculpture through the combination of volume—a classical attribute of sculpture—and photography, a contemporary medium. The exhibition focuses on the conceptual evolution of ‘Deodorant Type,’ the series that lies at the core of Gwon’s distinctive practice of photo-sculpture, while tracing the trajectory of his work as it has developed through an ongoing dialogue with major figures in the history of modern sculpture. 2026.09.11

In the mid-twentieth century, pop art actively brought images from advertising, consumer goods, comics, and mass media into the realm of art. As mass media and consumer culture continued to grow and new forms of media emerged, Korean artists likewise began to appropriate and transform images and objects from everyday life, combining them with other images to reflect the society and culture of their time. 2026.09.11
